Access to Information
How we share your information
The Business Services organisation (BSO) maintains the database of people who are living in Northern Ireland (NI) and who are registered with a GP practice. In order for individuals to be registered on this database they must be assessed by BSO to establish if they are eligible to receive publicly funded healthcare.
This database holds demographic information such as names, addresses and date of birth. There is no clinical information held on it.
The demographic information may be shared between the BSO, other health and social care organisations such as Trusts, and other government bodies such as the Social Security Agency, HM revenue and Customs, and the Home Office, for the following purposes and subject to the Data Protection Act 1998:
- The management of health care services (such as breast screening and other health screening programmes)
- To verify the eligibility of people to receive publicly funded health and social care services in NI, and
- The prevention, detection and investigation of fraud and or crime.
